Renowned Activist Boniface Mwangi recalled an incident on January 15, 2010, where fellow journalist John Allan Namu saved his life during protests at Jamia Mosque, Nairobi.

He was covering a protest outside Jamia Mosque, where Muslim youth were protesting the arrest of Sheikh al Faisal who had been convicted in the UK.

City Market traders began throwing stones in protests. A man in the crowd was shot, and when he was taken to safety, Boniface moved in to frame the shot.

Only for a stone to suddenly hit his head from the back, leaving him lying helpless on the ground. His colleague John Allan Namu came to his assistance and took him to safety.

“I had been struck on the head by a stone. Everyone fled. John-Allan Namu saved my life that day. He rushed over to where I was lying helpless and pulled me to safety, “ he narrated.

Boniface Mwangi said he managed to photograph Namu’s wedding and also bag his second CNN African Journalist of the year for his outstanding work of children shot in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.
