Hillary Mutyambai, Police Inspector General has refuted claims that police officers had brutalized members of the public following a raid by officers in a Nairobi estate.

In a report published on Monday, 21 December 2020, the IG explained that the police had replied to a disturbance call from a disembodied neighbor, not a crackdown on curfew compliance as it had been channeled on social media.

“The attention of the National Police has been drawn to allegations doing rounds in the social media on alleged assault by police officers on members of the public in an estate within Nairobi.

“We wish to clarify to members of the public that the incident had nothing to do with enforcement of curfew orders,” read the statement.

IG Mutyambai reported that some individuals had attended a night party at the estate residence.

“The National Police Service upholds the rule of law and does not condone any form of Police excesses. I promise that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken against those found culpable,” stated the Inspector General.
