The Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has appointed senator Kamala Harris as his running mate.
She is the first black woman and Asian America in the role. The California senator of Indian-Jamaican heritage had been long seen as the front-runner.

The former attorney general has been on the fore front urging police reforms amid nationwide anti-racism protests that began April this year.
Kamala Harris is set to face Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence on 7 October in salt Lake city Hall for a debate.
Mr. Biden had tweeted that he had “the great honour” to name Harris as his running mate describing her as a “fearless fighter for the little guy and one of the country’s finest republic servants.”
