Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that his party wiper has joined negotiations to enter into a post-election coalition agreement with the ruling Jubilee Party and Kanu ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Speaking during an interview Kalonzo said the National Executive Council (NEC), the party’s top organ, held a virtual meeting last week and gave him the nod to open talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi.
However, he said such a move would only be sanctioned in accordance with the agreement the party signed with its partners under the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.
“As Wiper, we are also consulting with Coalition partners in ODM, ANC and Ford Kenya to be able to see, what else we can do because as this time, the country needs to come together, regardless of political persuasion in order to jumpstart the economy and unite this country further,” said Musyoka.
He added: “As Wiper we ready to enter into a cooperation with both Jubilee Party and KANU when that time comes but we are open to that but right now we are guided by the provisions of the coalition agreement we have within NASA.”
Kalonzo, a former vice president and Cabinet minister, clarified that the agreement, however, will not be the death of opposition but its a plan prepare for the future, that includes the 2022 political contest
“We are in the initial stages of thinking a cooperation agreement not necessarily a coalition pact, as I indicated, we are consulting with our Nasa partners, to look for the best way forward, we have a running agreement,” he insisted.
