The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has maintained that all vehicles registered in 2013 will be rejected in the country by the end of the year.

In a memo to importers, returning residents, diplomatic staff, and the general public, KEBS announced that only right-hand drive (RHD) motor vehicles whose year of first registration of from January 1, 2014 and later shall be allowed into the country from January 1, 2021.

It warned that all vehicles arriving at the port of destination after December 31 will  be rejected at the expense of the importer.

The Agency stated that vehicles exported to Kenya must comply with KS1515:2000, Kenya Code of Practice for inspection of road vehicles, while vehicles from countries where KEBS has an inspection agency must be accompanied by a Roadworthiness Certificate provided by the Agency.

Through the Car Importers Association of Kenya (CIAK), the traders appealed to the KEBS and the Industrialization Trade and Enterprise Development ministry, to give them an extension of three months, to March 2021.
