Muliro Gardens, formerly used by residents of the area for sexual escapes, are expected to be reopened after undergoing a Ksh61 million renovation financed by the World Bank.

The County Executive Committee member responsible for Land , Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning, Robert Makhanu, confirmed that the renovated garden would be under 24-hour county askaris surveillance.

“We have already issued the contract to cast a Masinde Muliro golden statue and its pedestal is ready,” said Makhanu.

He added that there would be no religious or political meetings at the gardens.

“Only for brief photo shoots in the gardens would those coming from ceremonies such as weddings, university graduations and those celebrating their birthdays be permitted,” he said.

Meetings of people between five and ten would only be authorized upon approval by the Gardens’ Management Committee.

In addition, Makhanu said that no vehicles would be parking in the gardens, adding that the management was also in the process of constructing an eco-toilet and a cafeteria.
