174 Kenyans who got stuck in Saudi Arabia since March 2020 when almost all activities were halted due to Corona virus were on 15 July deported to Kenya.

The Kenyan Embassy had asked those who wanted to be deported to register with them and get a COVID-19 clearance certificate as part of the requirement before travelling.

The embassy worked with the Saudi Arabia Airlines to have Kenyans flown back.

” The Embassy in conjuction with Saudi Airlines successfully repatriated 174 Kenyans from Kingdom this morning. The Flight SV431, departed at 7.45 am from the port city of Jeddah,” read the statement from the airlines.

The repatriation came after one Kenyan citizen succumbed to COVID-19 in April 2020 who is said to have had underlying conditions.

The embassy had temporarily closed it’s operations and services till further notice as measure to contain the spread of the Virus.
