The Nairobi Half Life script writer, Charles Matathia aka Potash, went viral after the script writer was seen on the streets looking unkept in every way emerged.

In a video post on her Instagram account on Monday, February 24, Muli confessed that the story of Potash, had sparked some serious questions in her.

“This broke my heart. This is Potash…Charles Matathia, who wrote the script for Nairobi Half-Life. I watched the Nairobi Half-Life and it was fantastic.

Listening to him here say “I didn’t want to be famous…” it occurred to me that for many creatives fame comes with a price,” she wrote.

Potash after an interview with Jeff Koinange on Hot 96 had admitted that his life had deteriorated due to Psychotic depression touched Lillian Muli’s heart.

A video footage surfaced online depicting the sorry state of the life of Nairobi Half Life scriptwriter Charles Matathia has ignited mixed reactions from people online.

The video clip of Matathia has ignited mixed reactions as he is captured wearing tattered clothes, looking unkempt and carrying an old sack.

He describes himself within the first few seconds with the impression that he is in dire need of help saying, “My name is Charles Antony Matathia, I was born on July 23, 1979. I grew up here around Wangige market in Kiambu County of Kenya. I’m 40 years old.

I’m an aspiring screenwriter; my project which you’re familiar with is a feature film called Nairobi Half Life,”

He goes ahead and says, “I am an aspiring screenwriter, my projects which you might be familiar with are Upgradation in the short film – in the Sheng language, based on slum upgrading in Mathare valley, the other one is also a feature film called Nairobi Half-Life, Thank you.”

His mastery of English seemed to have taken by surprise the person shooting the video as one could hear a resounding “wow” at the very end.

The life of Potash had taken a turn for the worst after he started abusing drug because of the fame he had got and at one time went for a rehabilitation.

These sentiment prompted Muli to reflect on what she referred to as a problem facing creatives and celebrities who are not well prepared for the future in the limelight and away from it.

“Question is? Who mentors the talent in this country? Who prepares them for life in the limelight and how to transition from that fame and continue using their art in ways that continue to gratify them? If you are famous right now, what’s your plan when the cameras shift focus from you and you are no longer considered a celeb or relevant?” she wondered.

All Lillian Muli wanted to say was those at the limelight have the responsibility to shine light to those aspiring to be in the position they are in.

Creative should be mentored such that fame won’t come as a surprise to them. She finishes her video by telling us to help Charles Matathia  back to his feet and urging him on that all will be well.
