Can you even as a kenyan try to imagine how much could have gone into putting up such a Christmas tree? In an area where several tourists and a hub for many things are done!
Kenyans could not let this pass unmentioned and luckily this got to be Replaced with a better one.
After heavy trolling by Kenyans on Twitter KOT and basically on social media.. this is what one had to say;
Mediocrity Explained.
Our hub JKIA gave us a Christmas tree that was an insult to the occasion itself and simply put a bad show.
When Kenyans made noise they were quick to fix it which is a good thing but it exposed the quality of delivery that is a mindset of many in public service. In the private sector, customers vote with their feet and they simply don’t buy or associate with you. In this case, you cannot avoid an airport if you are to fly hence they must chase away mediocrity.
My concern is how many other projects are delivered like the first Christmas tree and signed off which as average Kenyans we are not able to see and reject??
While this happened at JKIA, I will say without any fear that many parastatals in Kenya cuddle and feed one animal called mediocrity. I would be keen to know if the first tree was an in-house attempt or an external party was paid for it and how much? Even for an in-house attempt that was BAD.
Being mediocre is being average and no commitment
There you have it .
One advice to JKIA, all airports and all institutions, plant your own tree at a centre location like on a roundabout and every year you simply decorate it. The world is now keen on sustainability besides your cost will be minimal and benchmark we have many hotels that do it.
