On Tuesday, 1 December, Justice Nzioki wa Makau temporarily halted the motion awaiting the hearing and resolution of the case brought by Sonko. The Nairobi County Assembly has been directed by the court to suspend the hearing of Governor Mike Sonko’s indictment motion.
The judge further restricted MCAs from addressing the motion until Sonko’s case was heard on Thursday, December 3.
“The balance of convenience tips in favour of granting the conservatory orders sought since the dates for debate of the impugned motion can always be reset upon the court making its findings,” stated Justice Makau.
Governor Mike Sonko, via his legal advisers, applauded the court’s ruling.
“The law must be observed and adhered to, and we are very satisfied with the representatives of our counsel led by Harrison Kinyanjui,” stated the Nairobi County Director of Communications.
Mike Sonko disputes the motion proposed by the MCAs, who are allegedly working on the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM chief Raila Odinga.
