Naivasha police have raised alarm over rising cases of stage-managed robberies on major highways in the region.
A report on Wednesday, January 6, indicated that a number of shady truck drivers were collaborating with criminals to carry out planned robberies on trucks.
Police say the cases are most common along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway and the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.
The case was brought forward by Naivasha OCPD Samwel Waweru, who carried out investigations along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway after an incident in which robbers allegedly stole goods worth Ksh10 million from a truck.
The truck driver told the police boss that a car full of robbers blocked his way, before carrying out the robbery. The police, however, have doubts on the basis of the recorded statements.
“We have seen a trend where drivers are selling goods on transit, and later stage-managing a robbery along the major roads,” Waweru stated.
The case comes at a time when robberies targetting parked cars are also on the rise across the country
