Retired MPs in Kenya are set to Receive a whooping cash of 100k monthly pension for life in the new revised changes to the National Assembly’s retirement benefit law.
On August 5 2020, the National Assembly is expected to pass the Parliamentary Pension (amendment) Bill , 2019, which seeks to impose a minimum pension for lawmaker who retired between 1984 and 2001.
The move is set to see 375 legislators who served during the period benefit as their monthly pension will rise from from sh 33,000 to 100,000.
“That bill amended by deleting clause two and substituting therefore the following new clause-in sub-section(1) (b) by deleting the word ‘two’ and substituting therefore the word ‘one’,” the new amendments to Bill read.
This is burden to the tax payers who are already feeling the pinch of deteriorating economy.
