National Assembly speaker, Justin Mutruri on September 1 came forth to discourse criticism leveled against the parliament.

He was hitting back to a petition filed by Law Society Kenya wanting  the parliament disbanded on the basis of failure to implement the two-third gender rule.

He declared that he was willing to have the house dissolved but noted it was not the solution.

“I am willing to have parliament dissolved then let us see. When you dissolve parliament there must be an election within 60 days. How are you going to ensure the resulting parliament is two-thirds (rule compliant)?” Muturi said.

The decision was thrown to voters to implement the rule as parliamentary seats were elective and not appointive.

This is after he noted the gender rule would only be implemented on the ballot.

According to the constitution, if the petition tabled is successful, the president is advised to disband the house.
