Dwayne Douglas Johnson, also known by his ring name, The Rock, is an American-Canadian actor, producer, investor and retired professional wrestler. Johnson was a professional wrestler for the World Wrestling Federation for eight years prior to pursuing an acting career.
His father was the former WWE wrestler and Hall of Famer Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson. Johnson died on Wednesday.
World Wrestling Entertainment issued a statement about his death on Wednesday night. Johnson and Tony Atlas became the first black world tag-team champions in WWE history when they defeated the Wild Samoans on 10 December 1983. WWE did not give details on the cause or location of Johnson’s death.
In 2008, Dwayne inducted him into the WWE Hall of Fame, where
“he will be forever enshrined as one of sports-entertainment’s most influential performers”, the WWE said.
He officially retired from the ring in 1991 but had a hand in training his son, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who would become one of the biggest names in the sport’s entertainment world.
