Widely known restaurants located in Nairobi Central Business (CBD) have been ordered to shut down for violating the Covid -19 guidelines.

This comes in the midst of strict enforcement after President Uhuru Kenyatta imposed a directive to close food shops and bars at 9 p.m.

“Our two levels of government are failing to enforce Covid-19 protocols. The curfew checkpoints have become outlets for corruption.

“You must remember that it is not the government’s desire to close down the economy, but whether or not we shall remain open will depend on the public’s responsiveness to covid-19 protocols,” stated the President.

During an inspection exercise, four restaurants, including Hot Dishes and Petma, were ordered to close on 6 November by public health officials.

There have already been reports of arrests for those breaking the rules with partygoers in Murang’a arrested during a crackdown on Thursday.

Police Inspector General, Hillary Mutyambai, announced on Thursday, November 5, that anyone found to be in violation of the Covid-19 regulations would pay an instant fine of Ksh20,000.
