Two of Kenya’s coronavirus patients who recovered from the COVID-19 disease have spoken to the public for the first time since leaving the Mbagathi Hospital.

The two patients updated President Uhuru Kenyatta via a Skype on their experience.

Brenda Cherotich, who was reffered to as patient 1  believes she contracted the virus in London while returning to Kenya from the United States.

I think I got the virus in London on my way to Nairobi when I came back I stayed for a day.

As a patriotic Kenya, I decided to watch the response of my body and I presented myself the next day. I would like to thank the staff at Mbagathi because  they took it seriously,”

For the last 23 days, have been receiving treatment. They gave me the mask immediately I arrived,” she noted.

It was not an easy thing because the nurses were also under pressure since I was the first patient and they had not seen this before, the doctors as well,” Brenda explained.


For the last 23 days, I have been in quarantine and I have been receiving proper treatment and I am very thankful to the nurses at Kenyatta National Hospital.


Brenda has been in isolation for the last 23 days and thanks the doctors from the Kenyatta Hospital for taking care of her.
 She added that Kenyans should know that the virus is manageable.

“I want to tell Kenyans that this virus is manageable and people might have mild symptoms like a cough and a slight headache, so people should not really be afraid, we will pull through,” She added.

The president applauded Brenda for bring brave and coming forward.


You are special because immediately after arrival, without being coerced, forced or pushed, you took it upon yourself realising that you potentially were at risk to Kenyatta Hospital. We are proud of you,”  he stated.


The second patient, Brian, who says he was infected by Brenda,
He said  he was taken to the isolation centre immediately the test results for Brenda came back.

At the same time, he asked Kenyans to treat the pandemic seriously, saying its it is real but can be defeated if Kenyans follow directives from the Ministry of Health.

“Coronavirus is real, please follow what the govt. is saying because that is the only way to beat the disease,” Brian explained.

The two then thanked the government for its swift response in quarantining them and offering medical care to ensure they recovered.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru in the conversation aplauded them for their bravery & wished them well.

At the same time, he asked Kenyans who feel unwell to be accountable & report to the relevant authorities.

He stressed on the need for social distancing and observation of the measures placed by the government.

In the coming days, the president has promised to meet the two physically saying Kenyans need to understand the gravity of the disease.
