Two unidentified Kenyan journalists were arrested in Tanzania.

Tanzanian District Commissioner for Longido District confirmed the arrest of two unidentified Kenyan journalists who were arrested in his district and that they will be charged with trespass and floating immigration rules as they crossed the Namanga border illegally.

According to Tanzanian authorities, the two were found interviewing the natives of the district over the Corona virus pandemic.The journalists were then arrested and taken to Longido police station, a few minutes drive from Namanga border post.

“They have entered Tanzania illegally and have not passed through the border. When they were questioned they said they were journalists who were covering Corona virus for a certain TV station,” Frank Mwaisumbe, the Longido DC said.

He added that they will be arraigned for trespass and traveling illegally to a foreign country to conduct interviews without getting clearance from the authorities.

The Media Council of Kenya is yet to ascertain the identities of the journalists who were currently under detention.
