In rare occasions would you get to hear men fighting for being the most ugliest anywhere in this world but somewhere in Africa it happens. In Zimbabwe in the southern part of Africa, this happens every year where men who believe themselves to be the ugliest go before an audience with judges who decide who of them is the ugliest.
This year took the contest a notch higher when a 42 year old man was crowned the ugliest man at a pub in Harare, a function which was attended by about 200 people. The function however did not end as expected and turned out to even be more ugly when the runners up started a fight claiming the judges were bias.
Judges on Saturday chose 42-year-old Mison Sere, citing his numerous missing front teeth and a wide range of grotesque facial expressions, over William Masvinu, who had held the title since 2012.
Dressed in torn overalls, Mr Sere beat off five other contestants for the $500 Mr Ugly prize which in Zimbabwe is really a lump sum amount
I want to thank God for winning this title, last time I came fourth. I just want to thank the judges for recognising me as the winner,” Mr Sere told journalists during a night of festivities.
William Masvinu however, a three-time Mr Ugly winner who walked off with a $100 second prize this year, cried foul.
The judges were not fair, the organisers must look for new judges to start the contest afresh. I did not lose today,” Mr Masvinu said.
The complaints of Masvinu and the other contestants may have some validty as organizers had previously announced that disabilities or enhancements would not be accepted in the competition which should focus on “natural ugliness.”
