A ten-year old class two pupil identified as Faith Achieng’ was found dead in unclear circumstances in Homabay County.

She was found hanging from the rooftop of her step mother’s house at Rayuer village, Kowuor Sub-location in Rachuonyo North Sub-county.

It is said that the girl left home for school on Tuesday morning but never went back home.

Her parents began searching for her and upon enquiry at the school, it was discovered that she never turned up.

They later began searching for her in the village.

One of the family members found her body in her step mother’s house which is situated a few meters away from her parents’ homestead.

Clement Owuodho, local Assistant Chief, said the girl’s body was bruised around the stomach and had stab wound that seemed to have been inflicted by a knife.

He added that the minor is suspected to have taken her own life but it was not clear what could have prompted her to do so.

Her parents said the girl had not shown any signs of depression before the incident.

Sarah Chumo, Rachuonyo North Police commander, said the police were investigating the matter to establish the cause of the death.

The body was moved to Kendu Adventist Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
