Doctors working in Nairobi have issued a seven-day notice strike before it begins on 21 August 2020.

In the notice issued to Nairobi Metropolitan Services, five grievances were noted by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentist Union.

They are questing for comprehensive National Hospital Insurance Fund covers, stating their covers have been inactive since the beginning of July.

Thuranira Kaugaria, KMPDU county secretary said they were also demanding salaries and arrears for five specialists going back six months.

He also lamented of frequent  salary delays and failure to upgrade some senior doctors. During a press briefing on Friday 13, he revealed 15 doctors in the city have contracted COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic while 14 have died nation wide so far.

“The Union has noted with a lot of concerns that the county does not have an isolation facility dedicated for  health care workers in country,” said Kaugaria.
