The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti over a health workers scandal in the county.

Awiti is on the spot after the organization opened an inquiry into the recruitment of 183 medical practitioners under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and some 69 interns under the same initiative.

On Wednesday, 23 December 2020, Phillip Kagucia, EACC Head of Corporate Communications, announced  that the Governor appeared before the Kisii Commission to record a comment.

The summoning of the governor stems from a previous date between the EACC and three members of the Public Service Board of the county on related charges.

Board Chairman Daniel Ogada, Collins Odhiambo (Secretary) and Tobias Odundo (member) alleged that Governor Awiti had conducted the recruitment unprocedurally.

They wrote to the Public Service Commission (PSC) demanding that the hiring of approximately 100 staff members be dismissed, citing irregularities in the recruitment process.
