Lucia Mwende, a form two students stumbled and fell into River Nyamindi on Wednesday, December 16, in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County while taking selfies with her friends.
Lurencia Wambugu, the girl’s mother, recounted that Mwende’s three friends came home running and informed her of the unfortunate event.
Wambugu and her friends immediately headed out to the river in search of her daughter’s body.
Residents noted that this was not the first time such an incident had happened, adding that the river is unsafe and that it would be difficult to trace the body.
The incident came just months after another 31-year-old woman, Dorcas Jepkemoi Chumba slipped and fell at Chepkiit Waterfalls in Nandi County.
Jepkemoi and her boyfriend Benjamin Kazungu were having a photo shoot session when she fell and drowned.
