High Court Suspends Implementation Of BBI Bill If Passed By Parliament

The High Court has temporarily suspended the coming into force the BBI Bill, pending the hearing of a case challenging the Bill.

This means, the president will not be able to sign it into law if parliament passes the Bill until the case before the five-judge bench is heard and the verdict delivered.

This happened after the application filed by Thirdway Alliance lawyer Elius Mutuma, who urged the court to suspend the Bill from being assented into law.

The eight cases challenging the Bill were consolidated into being one case.

The petitioners are terming the move to amend the constitution very dangerous insisting, the public was completely locked out from the amendment of the country’s supreme law.

Furthermore, Petitioners maintained the manner in which the BBI bill was presented to the county assemblies was hurriedly done in a choreographed script, to lock out Kenyans especially those who opposed it.
