Going to her Facebook page, Janet Mbugua rebuked the incident by writing;

Somewhere in Kenya, expired sanitary pads r being repackaged, putting the health of many at risk, compromising progress made in #MHM. Coz of the risk of bacteria growing on the pad, this could produce a fungal infection, adding to the already complex issue of managing periods.

How did this go unchecked? Why? Sexual and reproductive health and rights, including access to the right products and information, are treated callously. We advocate, but in return we’re met with sub-standard promises and health risks.

Those who have some level of control in ensuring that we have access to the information and products we deserve, take to Twitter to defend themselves when what we really need is intentionality & consistency in closing the gaps!

When the #MHM Bill is finally made public, we need to hold all those tasked with addressing matters menstruation, accountable. We need to dialogue, be inclusive, be aware, push back, celebrate small wins, but we can’t be silent! #menstruationmatters #endperiodinjustice 🩸
