Kenyan Citizen Sentenced to Death in Somalia Over Terrorism

A military court in Somalia sentenced a Kenyan citizen and two others to death for allegedly being part of a foreign terrorist group.

Aden Mohamed, 28, was accused of fighting for the terror group in Somalia since 2017.

According to the prosecutors, this was the first big case involving Kenyan man allegedly working with foreign terrorist groups.

The second suspect, Abshir Mohamed, 47, was also sentenced to death, while the third, Mohamud Shiniyow, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for carrying out assassinations and other terror attacks in Somalia.

Liban Abdullah Omar, one of the suspects linked to the September 21, 2013 terror attack was freed on October 16, due to lack of evidence.

Two others, Mohamed Ahmed and Hussein Hassan Mustafa, were found guilty of conspiring to commit an act of terrorism and being in possession of material promoting terrorism activity.
