Born Benson Wanjau in 1937, Mzee Ojwang, as he is, or was rather, popularly known, is no more. Mzee Ojwang passed away on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital. He was one of the country’s best known, respected and trusted comedians in Kenya.
According to reports, Mzee Ojwang succumbed to pneumonia while receiving treatment at Kenya’s leading public referral hospital. He was first admitted to the Loresho Hospital in mid-March after a prolonged eye ailment.

The popular thespian, who for more than three decades had been synonymous with the TV comedy series Vitimbi where played the role of a no-nonsense entrepreneur married to Mary Khavere character Mama Kayai filled many sitting rooms in Kenya with laughter as seen below.

Following news of his death, messages of condolences have been flooding in the social media. From his fellow actors and the Kenyan public that he so effortlessly entertained.
He was a legend of his time, and he shall surely be missed. We here at Malimwengu send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
