On Friday 24 July, 255 people were arrested at Avery Lounge in Utawala for flouting curfew rule. It is said the Lounge belongs to Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria.

The arrest followed an operation in Utawala that saw the Lounge raided by the police for violating curfew and social distancing rule set by the Ministry of Health.

Those who were arrested were taken to Ruai and Kayole Police station as they await to be arraigned on Monday 27 July.

The locals claimed the lounge operates with amnesty. It even continued with its operations after several people had been arrested a fortnight ago.

MOH expressed its concerns over misconduct of bars and restaurants in Nairobi. Francis Kuria said they had noted several bars were operating illegally and police officers had been directed to crack them down.

“You have asked for closure by yourselves  and don’t blame anyone. The decision that will be announced on Monday after summit will be as a result of gross misconduct by these restaurants,” said Dr Francis kuria.
