President John Pombe Magufuli Leads Thousands of Tanzanians In Mkapa’s Mass Requiem.

The Tanzanian President has led thousands of his people in a requiem mass for the late former third president Benjamin Mkapa at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es salaam.

The event was led by a catholic church where thousands of citizens turned up for the service.

Speaking during the mass, the family spokesman William Erio said Mkapa succumbed to a heart attack at his home. He said he started feeling unwell and was taken to the hospital where he had been diagnosed with Malaria and admitted on July 22. He then added the president was recovering from Malaria at the time of Cardiac arrest.

“I went to visit him on Thursday and found he was doing well. He gave me a message to deliverto Bishop Nzigilwa that he will not make to attend his farewell but said he would send me deliver his message,” said William.

The government said members of the public will be given a chance to pay their last respect for 3 days from Sunday to Monday at Uhuru Stadium.

“Tuesday will be a day leaders to pay their last respects with the exercise running until noon,” said Prime Minister Kaaim Majaliwa.

On July 29, 2020 Benjamin Mkapa will be laid to rest  at his home in Lupaso village of Masasi in Mtwara region.
