The National Construction Authority (NCA) on Tuesday, October 27 conducted a sweeping crackdown across Nairobi on contractors working on unapproved construction works.

The objective of the crackdown was to check the level of compliance in the ongoing construction of building projects around the city.

NCA nabbed a number of contractors who had not met the requirements of the relevant authorities.

Among the areas raided by the Authority are Kileleshwa, Eastleigh and Jogoo Road.

Maurice Akech, NCA Executive Director who led the crackdown, stated that cases of unprocedural construction were on the rise.

“The projects are not registered, it has no compliance certificate. The workers working on site have no accreditation from NCA and when we found them they had no PPEs. We cannot tell the safety of some buildings because they have no documentation or paperwork,” Akech stated.

Chinese nationals were part of the contractors who were arrested during the crackdown.
