The speaker of the senate Kenneth Lusaka assured the members of the county assembly of Kirinyaga and Ann Waiguru proper and fair trial during her impeachment hearing.
This came after Kirinyaga member of county assembly (MCA) Anthony Gathumbi in a letter dated June 9, 2020, conveyed the notification of the motion for grounds of impeachment of the Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
The Speaker took it upon himself through his tweeter handle and assured Kenyans of a fair hearing, this what he noted:
“I want to assure Kenyans that Senate is a House of integrity and shall serve justice to both the assembly and the governor without fear or favour.”
Some Kenyans are worried about these remarks and whether the Senate has the capacity to push this motion on a fair hearing amidst the political divide between the jubilee party.
Jubilee split has been on a cold war between the president and his deputy that’s the Kileweke and Tanga Tanga respectively with changes coming directly from the president office headhunting deputy president William Ruto’s entourage.
During a by-election in Kibera where Imran Okoth took the day, it was on the open, jubilee party members could agree on unison to flag a candidate but split on a decision where others joined Baba in supporting the now new member of parliament from Kibera through the Building Bridges initiative.
It’s a house of cards for Ann Waiguru as the rift in jubilee intensifies from ‘we have the numbers” to apolitical power play of uncertainty.
