Senator Malala has been released today morning following an outcry by Mumias Youths who arranged a protest. According to a tweet by Senator Malala’s lawyer, Nelson Havi, the senator was released from Mumias Police Station earlier today.
“Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who was seized yesterday has left Mumias Police Station a free man after Police realized that charges intended to be preferred against him were without legal basis. We cannot say he was released as there was no evidence of arrest but seizure.” Tweeted Nelson Havi.
This comes after Senator Malala shared his experience with police officers in his home county. Malala had to stay outside the police station from 10pm last night to today morning.
Speaking to Radio Jambo, he claimed the police officers had to come up with something to charge him with. They later charged him with illegal public gathering.
