A series of twitter accounts belonging to high profile individuals and companies were hijacked on Wednesday afternoon with an intention of promoting an apparent Bitcoin scam. It was such an intense day for Jack Dorsey as twitter quietly contained the damages that had already been done.
Bitcoins trended for the better part of the day as many people fathomed what could have lead to the hack. Speculations on different forums including reddit suggested the hack was an inside job done by a rouge twitter employee.
Is bitcoin safe?
Overtime, bitcoin has proven to be a safe technology that hackers have been unable to crack. Only resorting to scams in-order to gain a piece of it. So yes, bitcoin in itself is safe.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the US presidential candidate Joe Biden, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, former US President Barack Obama, Michael Bloomberg, reality television show star Kim Kardashian and husband rapper Kanye west were all not spared in the coordinated attack
Twitter’s Statement.
Immediately the hijack was detected, twitter made an official statement recognizing the security breach. The statement read:
We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.
