A woman was nabbed today after she abandoned her newborn baby in a sanitary towel bin at a petrol station’s toilet in Runyenjes, Embu.
A lady identified as Perptua Mwende is said to have abandoned hour-old baby girl inside a sanitary pads bin while on her way to Nairobi.
According to a police report, the woman who was a passenger in a public vehicle arrived at the shell around 7:30pm in Neno Sacco matatu and quested to use washrooms.
30 minutes after the matatu left, the watchman had cries of a baby from the toilet and decided to check.
“She asked me for the keys and said she wanted to relieve herself. I only heard a baby crying after the matatu she was traveling in had long left,” read the report lodged by the watchman.
Upon opening the washrooms, it was then he found a baby thrown in the sanitary pad bin and blood stain on the floor.
It is said Mwende was arrested by Makuyu police officers while on transit after the driver drove there upon being informed the incident by the petrol station attendant.
Perpetua is in custody pending investigations before she’s arraigned.
