A whatsapp screenshot of what is believed to have been Dr. Stephen Mogusu’s last words to his colleagues has emerged.

Dr. Mogusu, who died of Covid-19 on Monday 7 December, expressed his anger at the poor management of the health sector, which saw a section of doctors work almost five months without a salary while working on the frontline in the fight against the lethal disease.

The young doctor served in Machakos County under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pilot program administered by the Ministry of Health.

In a message to the Whatsapp group dominated by young doctors who were employed in August to help fight against Covid-19, Mogusu urged his colleagues to demand harder for their pay or to give up their jobs.

“Usually I would write and write but today I just want to say save your miserable selves from those institutions, you will live to earn another day. I am not in any way inviting arguments or response to my post, am too weak to type anymore,” he wrote.
